ABOUT THE ARTIST Richard Schmid was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1934 and began to study painting, drawing and anatomy at the age of 12. In 1952 he enrolled at the American Academy of Art in Chicago to study advanced painting and drawing techniques under the late William H. Mosby. Throughout his distinguished career as painter an teacher, Richard Schmid has been a candid spokesman for what is known as the Grand Manner, a certain mingling of virtuosity and unrestrained joy in Art.
